Jedi Master Hamilcar Lect Empty
PostSubject: Jedi Master Hamilcar Lect   Jedi Master Hamilcar Lect I_icon_minitimeSat Oct 05 2013, 04:01

Name: Hamilcar Lect.

Age: 38 years old.

Gender: Male.

Race: Echani.

Faction: The Jedi Order.

Rank: Jedi Master.

Appearance: Either Lect is an old man with very young attributes, or he is an Echani. It is true of the latter. He displays the distinctive traits associated with Echani, such as silver eyes, silver hair, and very pale skin. His build is quite well toned, mixing stamina, power and endurance. Although it is better to say that he is far more endowed with the rigors of Echani physique than anyone bulky or massive. The Echani prize light armor and speed over clumsy strength and sheer overkill that Mandalorians seem to love, and it reflects in Hamilcar's musculature. He is all about precision, like a scalpel granted. Anyways, his head is oval shaped, with long frontal hair parted to the side as it is feathery to the tough. His eyebrows aren't thick, but not thin either, while his lashes are rather small and almost unnoticed. His eyes are hawkish whereas his nasal passage is straightforward.

He stands about 6' 2" feet, weighs about 175 pounds, has spidery fingers and a stoic face that harbors no wrinkles or lines of any sort. It is due to him not smiling much actually. Stone faced and rather hawkish in gaze, he leaves his face unhampered with anything to put on it. Instead electing to show it freely.

His clothing tend to be the itchy Jedi robes that is meant to show humility, still though, they are really itchy. He wears a black long coat with a hoodie that he doesn't really wear, a pair of black leather gloves customized to fit his hands comfortably, grey Jedi robes except it is divided in two prongs from the hem with pockets on it, a utility belt where he keeps a myriad of assortment, and finally a pair of black jackboots. It reflects in the theme he adopts of the lunar style that Echani fancy, it's not so much as pride as much as homage to his origins as Echani.

Underneath his left hand, is a disfiguring burn scar which extends all the way to his shoulder. An old wound he sustained to which he hides. Not out of shame, but merely not to unnerve younglings. He actually has a bit of pride in it that he lived to tell the tale, despite how contradictory it may be to the Jedi's Code.

Weaponry: A Lightsaber. That's what he uses, and it looks like this. Features all lightsaber features standard at the time, and looks rather bland.

Spoiler:

The lightsaber is nothing spectacular in appearance, and in fact is quite simple as homage to humility often found in a Jedi. He is not trying to exercise threat to people, but to act as a peace keeper in place, and an agent of order and all that is good.

The lightsaber features ridges in place so the grip is firm, and it does not fall out of hand, as well as to exercise control and finesse in battle. It also features a solid casing as well so to make it robust, with a ring at the pommel to be deposited easily by the belt, hanging there whenever required, pulled out in an easy motion. Featured by the hilt is a shroud in place that gives it a distinct triangular shape from where the blade produces.

Also the lightsaber is blue in color, indicating that Hamilcar is a Jedi Guardian, with the crystal being Adegan, the danite kind.

Skills: As a Jedi Master, as well as a foremost Weapon Master, Hamilcar is well versed within all forms of martial combat and prowess of the Jedi, fighting alike an Echani with their hand to hand style as well as their finesse with weapons. For the Echani, fighting is a way to gauge someone's personality, and sometimes can be an intimate exchange between two individuals. Fighting was not so much as self-defense as much as art, in which stances are read and the body itself is mastered.

The following styles of the Jedi he knows and can do so with mastery is listed below. The ones with mastery will have an asterix, whereas the one he can perform, but not with the proficiency as if it were familiarity will be without asterix.

  • I: Shii-Cho
  • II: Makashi *
  • III: Soresu
  • V: Shien *
  • VI: Niman
  • VII: Juyo *

The following are the force powers he knows. (Going to lessen the amount given he knows a crapload of forms, to compensate for. Two force powers at master will be removed, he'll get the amount of force powers at Knight numbers instead)

  • Telekinesis: (*) A power that was natural for most Force sensitives. It allowed the user to pick up an item through the Force and move it as they saw fit. Stronger users could pick up larger objects from longer distances and hold them suspended for longer duration.
  • Force Pull: (*) Allows the user to pull objects from a distance towards themselves. More advanced users can pull larger objects from greater distance.
    Prerequisite: Telekinesis
  • Force Push: (*) This power allowed the user to push objects away from themselves. More advanced users can push larger objects to a greater distance.
    Prerequisite: Telekinesis
  • Precognition: (*) Found in nearly all Force Sensitives it allowed the user to seemingly sense changes in the environment around them. For many this power was subconscious and always active.
  • Battle Precognition: (*) A more advanced form of Precognition. It allowed the user to essentially sense their opponent’s next movement during battle.
    Prerequisite: Precognition
  • Stun Droid: (*) This power causes a small short-circuiting that directs power through the droids processors disabling them for a handful of seconds.

  • Force Jump: (**) Allows the user to use the Force to propel themselves in the desired direction, thus greatly extending the usual distance of a jump or leap.
    Prerequisite: Precognition
  • Force Speed: (**) Allows the user to push their body’s dexterity to its limits moving faster than would ordinarily be possible. With more training stronger users can enhance their speed to the point that their movements are mere blurs.
    Prerequisite: Precognition
  • Force healing: (**) Allowed the user to call upon the Force to accelerate the healing process and rapidly heal wounds. It is believed that those of the Dark Side found it difficult to use this power thought it’s never been proven. Many simply believe they prefer a means of healing their wounds that causes pain to others.
  • Breath Control: (**) Allows the user to optimize the bodies use of oxygen. Thus when they held their breath the body could be sustained for long periods of time without breathing. The duration could be from a few minutes to a few hours. Some practitioners have been rumored to use the power to hold the breath for days.
  • Force Illusion: (**) The user would project an image directly into the mind of a target. Because it was shown directly in the targets mind all of the senses would believe the illusion as well, from hearing to smell.
    Prerequisite: Mind Trick

  • Force Bellow: (***) A force power in which the user could amplify their voice to tremendous proportions. Ithorian Jedi were known to cause massive damage to their surrounding environment with the power.
  • Force Armor: (***) Allowed the user to employ the Force to create a defensive aura around themselves that. The aura had the ability to lessen the effects of some Force powers as well as stop some lesser powers all together. It was primarily used against offensive powers.
  • Force Comprehension: (***) The ability to absorb massive amounts of information very rapidly by speeding up the user’s neural processes. The user must comprehend at least a basic knowledge of the topic their wishing to learn. It was also known to cause strong emotions so many Jedi avoided it.
  • Force Sight: (***) Allows a user to use the Force to sense, and see through their minds eye, areas through physical boundaries. More advanced users can gather a more detailed picture of an area.
  • Saber Throw: (***) Allows the user to throw a Lightsaber and physically guide it through the Force. Often the user would through it at an enemy and then guide it back to their hand/s.
    Prerequisite: Telekinesis

He also has piloting skills in that he can make use of landspeeder or fighter ship, can knit fuzzy sweaters and has a distinct ability to cook and recognize the flora and fauna of Manaan. Also knows how to make masterful culinary dishes of Geonosis, which involves a lot of sludge and other fauna extracts.

The languages Echani, Galactic Basic, and Huttese are all tongues Hamilcar can speak with proficiency, and understand.

Personality: Stoic is what many would attribute on first impression, but unorthodox when given further insight to the Jedi that is Hamilcar Lect. A man of values that are strong in ethics, and an idea that the code is nothing more than a guide, not a replacement for morality. He has a strong obligation to help the weak, donate to the poor, and curb injustice wherever it is, as per his Jedi training and indoctrination. He can be rather determined in his aim to actually fix a situation he otherwise views as broken. The things he views as broken are often acts of wanton murder, chaos, destabilization and individuals that pose a clear threat to galactic threat, or even planetary. Regardless of their circumstances, he acts in a way he sees as fit to bring the best out of the situation in a utilitarian light. Though regretful, if forced to it, as the Jedi Code deems, he will have to slay the person in question, but only when he sees his options lingering from it. He tries to remain his composure at every opportunities, and remain with serenity in his mind, which is paradoxically enough is easy for him to do when he lets his passion run free when assuming the Juyo form, or even let his body speak honestly in the Echani fighting style.

He holds no qualms to wounding his opponents, so long as they live. In the age of prosthetics, it is but a little and minor detail to gloss, and with lightsabers, should he be so forced, he will have to resort to it. Otherwise, he does not seem to display enthusiasm at his job, but on the other hand rather keeping to himself in private, as a rather dour and sardonic individual, with a dry wit and a view that looks at things from out of the box... at times. It is known to sprout from occasion, given he had a good number of years as newly christened Jedi Master, shining with wisdom of experience, but nonetheless he remains a fresh face, and thinks quite so in a shift between by the book, and unorthodox actions.

He has seen the war of the Mandalorians in the first hand, so much death, murder and chaos. The butchering that other Jedi in the Order left unattended to, and his biggest regret stemmed from not answering the call. That he could've been that extra Jedi to help against the war, that he could've acted against the brutal Mandalorians that put innocents to the torch, that even if the Jedi should be neutral, it was a failure he agonizes over on a fundamental level. Were the Jedi that answered the call right? In spite of the fact a few of them turned to the Dark Side? Was he supposed to leave them behind? It shaped him as a person whom he is today as a result of his inaction in those years, minted with being a Jedi Master for being patient, among other merits in which qualified him as one. To be a Jedi is to know when to act, and when not to act, but in this instanace, he finds himself philosophizing if what he did was right. It was right on a lawful level, but wrong on an ethical level. A dilemma that even to this day he wants to avert by being the most involved in conflicts as a Jedi Master. Enough so to a point he is regarded as a Gray Jedi by the other Masters on the council, in spite of the fact he does not linger between the fine boundaries of the Dark Side and Light Side, but treads towards the Light.

However, there were cases in which he has come perilously close to them. Guilt, a persistent feeling and emotion that gnaws within him, and the need to seize power that he suppresses as he knows they are all traits of the Dark Side. That it is better to conquer an existing condition such as that, than to purge it entirely, for it keeps him vigilant always, if not a bit too paranoid in such cases. Mingling feelings which he must keep out, master meditation, and seek solace in the fact they shouldn't be displayed openly. That perhaps were he to never speak of them, display them, and keep them deep down inside his psyche, it will drift away. A trying trial, but nonetheless he keeps himself distracted with taking care of the youth and younglings of today.

He sees himself as a father within the order, and those whom he gives advices to, something required. Masters are not meant to only involve themselves in official or ceremonial roles in his opinion, but to micromanage just as well as macromanage. Everything is a guidance to him, nothing more, and nothing less. The Jedi Code is an inspiration, but no substitute for personal ethics... he learnt that in the period of the Mandalorian war, and paid dearly as a result.

History: Back in the early days of the galaxy, in a galaxy far far away...

The Jedi Order hasn't been raising kids from infancy in their order, but rather in their childhood during this tenure. A policy not revised till centuries later on. Hamilcar grew under the loving care of two parents that would be saddened to see him go when he displayed talents of the Force. He was born in Eshan, and has spent much of his childhood being schooled in Echani fighting as per his heritage, as well as other scholastic pursuits. But it was all cut short at the age of 6, where he was spirited away to the Order when discovered his uncanny luck, and the preternatural knowledge he had of his surrounding were in fact attributed to his force powers.

From then on, he was taken away from the warmth and loving care of his family to the cold Jedi Order. It was where he was taught many things, concepts he did not understand, like to fight as a last resort, and yet they are expected to fight for the weak as an example. His creative mind found many loopholes and questions that were only met hushes from the teacher, to say the least, he was an oddity. Having lived throughout his tenure like an open sponge but with many questions, that many predicted he would be a Jedi Consular in aim, considering his scholarly nature. Many in fact had hoped he would take that approach, or at least foster his force powers, but alas, he had focused far more on martial prowess, strong convictions and a headstrong attitude. He was a youth, impressionable and filled with a lot of feelings of invulnerability. His teachers would warn against it, but he wouldn't listen, often going back to his same demeanor the next few days as it was imprinted in him.

He was coming of age, rash as always, that perhaps a master can be assigned to him in which he could temper his youth with the wisdom of age and experience, considering he is a Padawan, passing his examination with flying colors. The Jedi Knight and Consular Matogoto Lsawn was assigned to him. She was an Echani like him, that found Hamilcar trying on her patience many times. In fact, his assignment to the normally calm and scientific Lsawn was a test in itself to her as she was evaluated in demeanor towards younglings, a candidate towards being a Jedi Master. It was as a result, there was a lot of scrutiny placed on the young Echani student, as he was treated very rigidly, compelled many times to learn things he did not want to. The two were at odds with one another, like water and fire. To boot, they also had different philosophies when approaching things. Matogoto wanted scholarly knowledge, and Hamilcar wanted to solve the galaxy's problems through physical applications. The only thing they could even agree on which was the few things they had as a bond, was for her to teach him further about Echani fighting style. It was a more emotional and intimate thing in which they could understand one another without the need for words.

It was often during those bouts, she learnt how different she was from him. Whereas she cautious and deliberate, he is aggressive and yet uncertain. Youthly traits, but his potential clearly shined towards being a Jedi Guardian. Nonetheless, she has come to train him anyways, ambition was a filthy thing to have on a Jedi's mind, but her pride, a very forbidden emotion among the Jedi Order, has gotten the better of her. She made sure to take the young Padawan towards places where he wanted to be, to better shine his aspects, but at the same time, obtain many lores, pieces of information, and holocrons in place. Some that Hamilcar spied were black with red outlines in appearance, an uneasy energy emanated from them, but he were not sure what it was at the time. It drifted towards repeating and rinsing the same missions undertaken, going into forbidding planets that aren't too dangerous, but remote enough to warrant hazards. Be it the ancient powers behind temples, olden ruins, or merely the flora and fauna themselves. But it did well to chisel the young Padawan Echani towards practicing his forms, using these times to sharpen his skills with the blade as he found beauty in the art throughout his tenure. He became more controlled, calmer, upon using his lightsaber which was now a part of him, more of an expression of himself from before that he could not.

His trials were long and arduous, and so were the time spent with the seemingly faltering Lsawn, she seemed more manic if not depressed over the knowledge garnered. Seemingly the more tempered Padawan who had started to adopt her personality traits, tried to comfort her, but she spurned away everyone of his advances. It only drove what mending relationship from once they were estranged, to be alienated once again. He had drifted from her, only sticking around due to her title, in spite of her mystery activities, even keeping quiet and becoming her co-dependency, all the while she started getting older, and paler than usual. EVEN by Echani standards, and they are ALL pale as a default. He realized he had developed feelings for his master as if she was his mother, it was purely platonic really. Growing to care about her, but his teachings forbid growing attachments, lest one puts the fate of one person against the fate of all.

She never encouraged him anymore, and seemingly more interested in her own devices. Heck, even when he was christened a Jedi Knight, she did not display enthusiasm, in fact, she seemed out of sorts. He knew he had to leave her, and that brief stint was over with. He attempted to contact her in between his undertaking of missions, check up on his former mentor, but she seemed gloomy and down, having less time to even talk to him through communications till she stopped answering his calls.

He began to grow worried as she seemingly disappeared from the entirety of his life. Life moved on though, he got his own Padawan, stoic and more level headed than his younger days, teaching the girl temperance and good judgement that he learnt from the Lsawn... back when she was more personable, albeit irritable during those times. Having his own obligations to answer, but that was put aside the day he heard for dubious reasons, Lsawn was turned down from being a Master. Her entire span of a decade teaching Lect was all in vain. He was an accomplished Jedi, but something else had spurred this decision. He did not learn what, but left his Padawan in the temple to see how his mentor was faring.

What he was greeted with was her consorting by what he now finally realized what those Holocrons are -- Sith devices that impart knowledge, but also with it, an imprint of darkness and evil. All woes, misery and misfortune, to get power out of it, to reap knowledge forbidden to all but the most daring and depraved. Lect has been so blind, so attached to Lsawn that he overlooked what entangling corruption she had. She hid it so well, how clear faced and hidden she was in the face of the council, and yet somehow he had seen through the veil. Perhaps it is through this bond he has with her in the force, or perhaps for many other different reasons, that she let down such a veil, or she made use of some temporary acting alchemy. Whatever the ability was, it was a disturbing thing what she was doing.

Barging into her private sanctum deep within her private study, that which she once shown to Lect when to get away from the hustle and bustle of the temple, he confronted her and demanded an explanation. All the while resisting the allure of forbidden knowledge in the dark side, whispers of the power to strike down his master whistled past him, scrying through his brain. He ignored them, it was not the most troubling thing, the most troubling thing was her answer. Lsawn withdrew a lightsaber, igniting the blade. But that was not her forté, she had considerable force powers, in fact, she easily trumped Lect's, if not a good majority of the council's. Hamilcar acted upon his strength, and adopted a Juyo form, once more pleading with his master, only to have a bolt of lightning shot towards him. Dissipating with his Juyo form, he would charge the woman so lost into her own madness for knowledge. Her eyes depleted of sanity, only left an incarnation so warped, he could no longer call his mentor anymore.

The two clashed blades, his was more hesitant than hers, hers was far more intent on killing him. He could sense her intent to kill, to snuff his existence out and maintain this masquerade of hers. He was indecisive at the moment when it counted, that in the precipice of his own defeat as his own hesitation gave way, he relinquished and gave in to killing his mentor. Having found darkness within, sudden new found grasping for life as he was empowered by darker emotions, betrayal, anger, fear. They were dirty feelings to him, what he resigned never to fall on again, but for the moment, there was grief for having slain whom was regarded equivalent to mother to him. He found himself wondering, as whispers that he will be ostracized by the order gave sway, attempting to incite paranoia, that he should hide all evidences and take the Holocrons, flee as far away as possible.

Instead, being the intelligent individual he was, he took his time to overcome his grief, mull over things, meditate, and linger around as long as possible so his emotions doesn't control him. It wasn't easy, but his teachings, his own creed, helped him at least gain a semblance of stability to go to the Jedi council chambers and report his actions. He gave an extensive account of his master's descent into the dark side, following suspicions he had earlier as a Padawan but they were unfounded at the time, as well as the extensive collection of Sith Holocrons she hoarded in her sanctum. He further explained that he was almost onto the shores of death had he not taken a strike to slay her on the spot, but iterated it was used to save his life, that, and he had felt signs of the dark side, but suppressed them through meditating, and letting time erode.

The council lingered on this information, as well as Hamilcar's sudden bout of temporary empowerment by the dark side, took many factors into consideration, and ruled that he would be commended for having rid of this plot for the dark side, but he will need to meditate on his actions. He was in his right to strike her down as he exhausted all options, but he was to meditate on his actions. He received praises for suppressing his inner darkness, and it was only because he was too strict, as one Master told him, and not moderate, that he was pushed into the corner in the first place.

A lesson he kept in mind as he departed. Taking many therapeutic steps to meditate, and maintain peace of mind. His master's death weighed on him, but he convinced himself he did the right thing. It was on her part that she tried to kill him, and he was too assured that he might've been able to redeem her. Moderation. Something that he mulled over, yet he hadn't exercised it when it counted -- the Mandalorian War. The Jedi Order refused to join in at first, many young impressionable Padawan and Knights went though that he knew. Those that could not stand injustice, but Hamilcar lingered behind. Opting instead to let roles play out, and perhaps see where the opportunity presents itself. Being patient throughout the time, as he sticked out of it when his Order refused to intervene, trusting in their judgement as this was not a matter for Jedi to stick their noses into, he reasoned. Although unexpectedly to him, his own Padawan took off to fight in the war. He tried his best to dissuade her, but she'd have none of it, and shut the call down after he warned her that impatience leads to frustration, anger then ultimately to the Dark Side. He had personal experience in seeing it up close.

He trusted in the wisdom of the Council... they were right, they had to be. This was a matter for the Republic to handle, and to intervene would imply that the Republic was inept, and the Jedi would try to assert power. Something unbefitting of the Jedi, but it was all being shown without the Jedi help, what little went there to help in the battle, many of whom were not even experienced, and the military genius of Cassus Fett, the Mandalorian were slicing through the Republic in a blitz. Giving as good as it gets, yet it was still not enough with the Republic, as every day casualty lists are being bestowed out.

One day, Hamilcar had to stifle himself and intentionally leave to bask in meditation intelligently once again. What he saw, was the name of his Padawan among the recent dead. She was shot it seems, in the report, from the back. Not as well versed with deflections as she hadn't been taught those lessons, that Lect fondled the thoughts of what he could've done had he been there with her. Perhaps the outcome could be different, perhaps it could've been averted where she'd be alive and well. He was assured by the Council that they know he had done all he could, and that his patience and trust in them was right, and offered condolences, but he hadn't taken it much. Only feeling guilt over his inability to go out and help his Padawan. She was like a daughter to him, and now she was dead. He had to vent out his frustration in some way, taking about duels with his fists with fellow Jedi as a means towards distractions, and refining his lightsaber forms, as well as adopting some new practices in force abilities. Fill something into his mind, not ponder into it any further. The Jedi's ways are serenity and peace. And yet... he is not out there protecting the weak and innocent as word of Mandalorian atrocities hadn't reached him. Though the Republic has been gaining momentum under a genius admiral, and the Jedi Order were considering their stance as it gave him hope.

Upon the declaration that the Jedi will enter the war officially on side of the Republic, Hamilcar Lect was among the Jedi that spearheaded the assaults. Taking part of attacks on the Mandalorians as he vanquished them in the battlefields with his stone faced demeanor, protecting the weak and innocent as he needed. It was a vital push towards the war effort in which had helped the Republic eventually secure a victory, and finally sealing the end of the war. That did little though to resolve the demons in Hamilcar's closet, why hadn't he just entered the war earlier if THIS was the ultimate outcome? Why wasn't the Order just as willing now compared to their hesitation in the past? And why was he commended when it was his inaction among others that took the Republic for granted which left them in these dire straits?

He was even promoted to Jedi Master upon many merits, displays to uphold the Jedi Code, as well as the extensive lobbying he took upon the council where from the list of candidates, he was picked. A controversial move given his relative youth compared to other masters, but his merits and achievements spoke for themselves to the Council. Although once a Jedi Master, one cannot get rid of them, which is where he has come to introduce unorthodox philosophies, urging for further sanctions on the Mandalorians, he argued, that they will only continue to build force, that it was better for the Jedi to act. He was met with opposition, but nonetheless kept his views as one of the more radical elements in the Council. A stance he had kept hidden for so long, that at the face of all the injustices and regrets, he can finally give a peace of his mind, for he feels a dark presence looming in the force, that best they prepare, no matter how vague or abstract it may be to the general awareness of everyone else.

You're far too heroic for that name.

Get the feeling he might be leaning more towards gray than light.

Got worried at the end, but you redeemed yourself and got a crystal in there.

Can't let that go. Only people to ever master all forms of Lightsaber combat were Yoda and Sidious. Forces at Be also said that no one's allowed to master all seven, not even a master. I can get behind having knowledge of them all, but not mastery. In addition, the Vaapad variant of Juyo hasn't been created yet, so he can't know that.

  • Mind Trick: (**) Also known as Force Persuasion. Mind trick is a power that allows the user to subtly change the targets thought process through audible suggestion. It should be noted that individuals of strong will can be resistant to this power, the same can be said of some species.

  • Combustion: (****) Was the allowed the user to make an object explode by sheer force of will. This often left the object completely destroyed.
Don't know how I feel about the mix-and-match powers here. I want the Force the weigh in on this before I make a decision. Also, what else is he able to do? He can probably do other things, like knit fuzzy sweaters.

I knew it! He's gray!

Also, thinking about it more, 36 seems pretty young for a Master. I may be wrong, though, and your race doesn't live as long as a human, or something, and it's perfectly fine because it would be justified.

Still not at 100%, but I skimmed this and it looks good. Hoping others can pick up the slack on me.

Fix what I asked of you and this'll be good to go.

Fixed.

Just a few notes that one can become a Master based on merits, seniority helps of course, but there are cases in which one is promoted. Some of which involves extraordinary deeds done for the Republic, performing a modified trial for the Knights, or just training a lot of Padawan. Hamilcar did the extraordinary deed for the public bit, and lobbied for the spot.

BUT, I added two years anyways to the age to be on the safer side.

Removed some forms, made some that he mastered in and the rest he knows how to do, but it isn't his specialty. Since I am going for Jedi Guardian, a Jedi Weapon Master, so he should be knowledged about these things in general, just at the expense of some force powers. Anyways, other than that, removed the bits that contradicted lore, like Vaapid.

So yeah, ready for re-evaluation.

*Grumbles about all these young bucks becoming masters.*

*Misha A'kuze Slaps him.*

Well Anyway. Personally, I can't find anything really wrong with this. Much less anything holding back an approval.
