Rendal Arstor, Nish Knight Empty
PostSubject: Rendal Arstor, Nish Knight   Rendal Arstor, Nish Knight I_icon_minitimeMon Oct 21 2013, 22:34

Name: Rendal Arstor

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Race: Nish

Faction: The Jedi Order/Republic

Rank: Jedi Knight

Appearance: Rendal is a Nish and maintains a human-like appearance. Standing at a height of 6'1, slightly above average for the Nish people, and weighing in at 190 pounds. Rendal's muscles are well toned and defined throughout his entire body, a direct result of the physical labor and challenges of his life. Tattoos of his old life adorn his chest and in the form of a crest from his home. His eyes are a vibrant yellow color that reflects the ability of the Nish people, that is to say their low-light vision. In fact, Rendal's eyes resemble a cat more than a human but with a solid dot for a pupil. Rendal's skin is tanned from long hours of labor and much sun throughout his lifetime. A mark that has been slowly changing in recent years due to his wearing of a cloak and spending more time indoors. Underneath the hood of his cloak the light and almost gray colored hair of Rendal has been allowed to grow long and unkempt granting him a ragged appearance without his regal Jedi clothing and armor.

Rendal wears a cloak in much the same way most Jedi where a cloak. It covers most of his body and comes complete with a hood that can be pulled to conceal his face. Rendal hides his face at every opportunity, even among the Nish his eyes and hair were wild and even intimidating when paired with his unnaturally large size for his race. In an effort to further hide his face but use the ability of his people Rendal wears a mask, a mask that extends from his forehead in a point and attaches to the Jedi robes that he wears creating a shadow permanently cast on his face. This shadow can sometimes be seen in the proper light or dark to be casting out a yellowish glow from Rendal's Nish eyes. Donning heavy armor made from the famous armorweave material to keep his entire body well protected. This would include a separate piece for each of his hands in the form of brown gloves, two bracers that covered most of his arms of a lighter brown color, a chest piece extending up to the lower half of his neck, several inches down both arms, and slightly below his waist. This piece was a dark white color. His legs were covered with armorweave of the same color of his chest piece along with darker brown boots that extended up to his knees. This way of heavy armor was much like in the traditional ways of his people Rendal feels at home wearing heavy gear and defensive materials, even if it is sewn together with cloth from a Jedi cloak to make a symbiotic and unique piece.

Weaponry: A lightsaber, the traditional weapon of the Jedi. Specifically Rendal insisted on using a normal lightsaber due to his aversion to advanced technology.
Spoiler:

The lightsaber is made using an orange Dragite crystal from M'Haeli. The Dragite crystal creating a sound frequency in the lightsaber's beam whenever it came into contact with another object. This frequency was loud and distracting as well as damaging at close range to those unprotected or un-used to the sound. The orange coloration is a throwback to an older time within the order when orange was made to symbolize a harmony of scholarly and combat abilities rather than a focus on one or the other. The Dragite crystal was used to symbolize the near impossibility that Rendal became a Jedi as well as the strange nature of his views. It also helped in the decision of which crystal to use that M'Haeli is the place of the most difficult of Rendal's trials.

The lightsaber is unique in that it was made externally from a bone. The bone of a creature who's life was given in an effort to save Rendal from the forces of M'Haeli's most evil natural aspects. In reverence for the creature Rendal took him from the place of his death and gave him a proper burial, removing a bone to remember him by and eventually being the basis for his lightsaber. It has been altered internally so as to contain all lightsaber pieces and maintain functionality. However, all external modifications such as the blade length and power have been set at a constant level to avoid needing to add mechanics to the exterior and to preserve the structural integrity of the bone. As such this particular lightsaber is always set to be 0.8 meters in length.
Rendal's main style in using the lightsaber is Niman but he is also somewhat skilled with Shien (also known as Djem So) style.

Skills: As mentioned before Rendal Arstor is a student of the Shien/Djem So style of Lightsaber Combat as well as the Niman lightsaber style of combat.

Languages: (While slightly a moot point due to Force Comprehend throughout Rendal's history he learned the following languages) Galactic Basic Standard and Huttese.

Force Powers: As a Jedi Knight Rendal Arstor is fairly adept with the force, the following are the powers of the Force Rendal can use and the levels of these powers.
Initiate Powers (*): Telekinesis, Precognition, Battle Precognition, Force Push, Force Pull, Stun Droid.
Padawan Powers(**): Force Healing, Force Blinding, Mind Trick, Force Throw, Force Speed
Knight Powers(***): Force Bubble, Comprehend Speech, Force Armor, Force Orb, Malacia

From experience as a wanderer and survivor in uninhabited zones Rendal has learned, for the most part, how to survive off the land alone, being completely self sufficient when in nature, taking with him some of his knowledge of flora, fauna, and general plant-life from his time on M'Haeli as well as memories of Nishr and being raised to live from the land due to the great lack of 'modern' technology on the planet, Nishr. These skills include, knowing what to eat, how to make shelter, how to filter water into a drinkable form, and similar skills.

Personality: Some people say that the greatest way to determine one's personality is to view their greatest emotional triumph. At the very least it works as a start to the description of personality. Rendal's greatest emotional triumph is the suppression of the greatest emotion he has ever felt, rage toward the Hutt clans. As Rendal underwent his Jedi training and learned the ways of voiding ones self of emotion through the Jedi Code only his rage for the Hutt stayed boiling. Fearing his removal from the Jedi order if he was ever found out in that he hated so greatly he began a long period of introspection.  Through this period he battled with his hate and his rage and managed to suppress his rage deep within his psyche and soul becoming able to tolerate Hutt. Of course in addition to his troubles involving the Hutt clans a special place in his mind is reserved for his reserved anger against the Sarlacci (Bear with it until you read the history for justification). However this is the extent of the darkness in Rendal's mind aside from some reservations and uneasiness toward technology.

Training to become strong in the ways of the Light force molded Rendal's mind with the Jedi code. In doing so Rendal became a man who sought peace above violence, a man who only fought when challenged directly and a man who believed strongly in honor and diplomacy. Believing in the power of words and following the Jedi Code as his baseline of morals and ethics. As most Jedi do Rendal has taken the mantra known as the Jedi Code and gave himself a personal rendition. His own mantra gave a great focus to maintaining order, knowledge and peace and this led him into his chosen path of the Jedi. The path that ultimately led him to fit the orange lightsaber crystal, a mixture of scholarly and combat ability to maintain the power of the Jedi.

Rendal does not have regret when he kills or wounds as he never draws his lightsaber or uses the force offensively unless he is directly threatened or the principles of the Jedi order are challenged. While he holds no joy in killing, maiming, or wounding even in the case of Sith Rendal trained his combat abilities and honed his fighting skills for a reason though, that reason to uphold the Jedi order and maintain balance in the force.
As Rendal was born into a society that was very low in the technology scale and raised along the beginning of his life that way he has a natural aversion to almost any kind of technology. Flying in any kind of spacecraft gives Rendal a great deal of discomfort. Lasers, electro weapons, pulse devices, even the forging processes of modern metals cause some mixture of degrees of fear and confusion in Rendal. Rendal also took a long time adjusting to the idea of droids. Rendal doesn't see them as sentient or capable of thought and has trouble interacting with them at all. Droids are the only thing (minus Hutts) that still bring up emotional responses from Rendal although he is constantly improving on controlling that emotion using the light.

History: Early Life: Rendal Arstor was born on Nishr. Born into the feudal society and into a family of a knight and thus expected to become one in the future. It wasn't long before Rendal became a squire and began his combat training in service to a knight.  However it was about that time as well that a strange giant metallic object fell from the sky spitting fire and opening up to reveal an army of dark cloaked men. Their lasers and rifles quickly overcame the defenses of the Nish people that resisted them and from the survivors they took the most able bodied of the Nish people ranging from youth to the elderly that were still active, leaving the women and youngest children alone with no survival skills and no way to carry on. Rendal was among those taken into the metal craft and whisked off into the stars. They were whipped, beaten and shocked until they listened unconditionally to the words from the slavers in a language they barely understood.

As a youth this experience molded Rendal's mind to be filled with rage and began to think the entire world was this way. It wasn't long in this experience that Rendal began to think that the entire world was nothing but either being the slavers or the slaves. This treatment carried on for months before they were taken to a Hutt market to be sold off by the Hutt that employed the slavers. However, it just so happened a somewhat unorthodox Jedi with that dark past and a master that had turned dark was there, Hamilcar Lect, who had come to free the slaves to do damage to the Hutt Cartel, a force of the universe that his knight had deemed a great threat to the Jedi code. Hamilcar unsheathed a lightsaber and with ease defeated all of the slavers, despite their firing of lasers and other high tech weapons at him and attempting to kill him with all that they could. However this was not the end of Hamilcar's intervention into Rendal's life, nay, only the beginning of it. Sensing force sensitivity in the young Nish known as Rendal, Hamilcar took him back to be trained as a Jedi. After this was approved Hamilcar took the young trainee to be taught in the ways of the Force and become a Jedi.

Initiate: The beginning of the training was pretty standard and lenient. Learning about the force, learning about lightsaber combat. The only real difference between Rendal's training and the average initiate training was that Rendal had to learn about how the galaxy functioned from the basics up as well as learning how to become a Jedi. A difficult task and full of disillusionment and harsh realities that Rendal had always assumed were impossible. Starships and laser weapons as well as The Force and Lightsabers were all very strange and alien to him. However this pure learning and theory training ended fairly quickly as Rendal and Hamilcar arrived on M'Haeli. This world was chosen as it was a jungle planet as well as known for lightsaber crystals in the form of Dragite crystals.  It was here that Hamilcar took Rendal up and deep into an uninhabited zone of the jungle covered planet. In this zone Hamilcar handed Rendal a vibro-blade and then promptly knocked him unconscious and left to go and socialized among the people of M'Haeli and even leave for a while. His only instructions were that he needs to survive, meditate on The Force and Jedi Code and collect a lightsaber crystal within two years, at which point Hamilcar was to return to the exact place he left from, if Rendal didn't show he would be assumed dead. All of these instructions, of course, left to Rendal via a data pad.

Padawan Trials, Alone: Rendal would later learn that he started out his survival exercise on Selon Mountain. At the time though, Rendal was confused and alone though soon he realized that he needed to make shelter, a fire, get food, safe water and any necessity that he could think of. Surviving alone and without some sort of system or help makes life hard. So his first course of action was to get things running smoothly, a routine, a shelter, and some reliable method to get food. This involved an elaborate series of traps and was completed within a few days, the shelter was completed on the first day and was little more than a dirty hut made of sticks and large leaves to keep it dry. In the days that immediately followed Rendal lived a life of peace and being one with nature. Staying within the confines of the shelter to meditate at any time that was free and not devoted to sleep. Sleep came from dusk till dawn, however eventually, after Rendal had a surplus, he began exploring outward from his "base" camp. The first of these led Rendal to encounter some strange bipedal creature hiding out in the trees. Rendal offered it food and water and it came to him, followed him back to the camp that night, and slept there under his shelter. For the days following it made strange guttural noises and grunting but remained near Rendal at all times.

These explorations soon became the high point of Rendal's day. He relaxed his meditations and began to focus more on being alive and living alongside his new friend as they would travel out as far as they could before the daylight began to grow dim, at which point Rendal would place markings to keep track of how much distance they had covered that day. Of course as a youth Rendal hadn't reached his full height potential yet, but still this bipedal thing towered above him and would still at his adult height. Probably standing at about 2.6 or 2.7 meters and strangely didn't seem sentient or savage, just complacent and friendly (For a note to give context this was an especially big Wookie that had been brought to this planet with a merchant but had gotten separated from them and wandered off into the wilds). This creature didn't hunt, fish, or forage or really anything and it was amazing that he hadn't died or starvation long ago. Rendal paid him no mind about that and began to enjoy his company more and more as the two became good friends, Rendal even began to talk to the thing even though it showed no signs of being able to understand him but it kept Rendal sane in his lonely time on the mountain.

Eventually on an exploration over a year after Rendal had arrived on M'Haeli Rendal and his friend-beast went on a particularly long exploration in an attempt to find the Dragite Crystals that his master, Hamilcar, had sent him for. Instead they happened upon a rather suspicious bit of grounds loosely covered by recently fallen leaves, Rendal's large friend was walking ahead of him and that was enough to change both of their fate's forever. Rendal saw the ground seem to open up but in reality the ground was never there to begin with. A massive beak-like thing came from the ground and smashed into his friend grabbing his arm and half of his torso inside of it and dragging him down. Rendal couldn't think straight in the heat of that moment and in a fit of passionate fear and fury attempted to pull his friend beast-thing out of the beak but failed to muster much Force. It soon dragged most of the creature out of sight and Rendal retreated back to his shelter, alone again and upset by his loss. Rendal's desperation of the force had horrifically split the leg from his only friend out in the wilderness and given Rendal a gruesome reminder of him and whatever killed him. Later Rendal would learn later that it was a Sarlacc that had been there but he was overcome with grief at the time.

Having a hard time with his troubles and brushing up against The Dark Side after that, the urge for more power and to let his passions go so that he could take vengeance for his fallen friend and slay that which would tear their friendship apart into a bitter end. However as he was meditating on The Force to gain more power, Rendal remembered his long months of meditation before on the Jedi Code and The Force. His training under Hamilcar and the world about him, and he realized things about the Jedi Code that could only be applied after an experience that tested him. The true majesty of Hamilcar's training was that it allowed for one to experience the Jedi Code and then apply it practically to whatever situation they would themselves become involved in as a trial of their faith in it and of their own devotion. "There is no emotion, there is peace" applied directly the situation as did "There is no passion there is serenity" and also "There is no death, there is the force." His fallen friend was now a part of The Force and as a Jedi his emotions and passions should not get in the way. Serenity and peace should guide his judgment and so with much meditation, thirteen days, Rendal finally took a deep breath in his shelter and exhaled, letting his emotions and passions go and becoming one with The Light once again.

And so Rendal was left with a single objective before he could go back to his routine of meditation and Light. He had to obtain a Dragite Crystal from the caves, however the young Sarlacc was between he and that particular cave. He'd seen it use tentacles and how huge it was and could not immediately think of a way around, thus through it he would have to go. His rage an emotion had subsided and he was able to control himself as he studied it from a distance, closing in to gauge it's range and examining every angle that he could of the monstrosity. After a day of studying and meditation Rendal determined the best way that he could remove the creature was to move over it and stop it from being able to reach him. Using telekinetic force powers Rendal baited out the creature's tongue by approaching. Slamming rocks that he had placed nearby strategically Rendal bashed the beak-like tongue back down while fending off the extra tentacles by way of the force and rocks, eventually, after hours of process, pinning the tentacles and tongue of the Sarlacc using rocks, trees, and any other heavy material located nearby. Knowing this was a temporary solution Rendal hurried into the cave and carefully avoided the Sarlacc as much as possible, hearing the noises of it's resistance against the weight, Rendal was lucky that he was facing such a young Sarlacc, as an older one would have been infinitely harder to subdue and been much stronger. In any case Rendal made it into the cave and soon found a crystal formation. Recalling history from Hamilcar's early teachings Rendal chose a particularly yellow crystal to symbolize harmony, a trait which Rendal desperately wanted and prized, and using The Force, claimed this crystal.

Following Rendal's claiming of the crystal he searched and found another exit to the cave multiple days of walking away from his "base" camp. His return took him almost an entire week due to a mix of in climate weather, trouble finding food and water, aggressive animals, and this being unexplored territory. Though soon Rendal came across some of the markings he and his friend had left which hit him with both a twang of hope in finding his camp and pain for the loss of his friend. Finding his camp again Rendal sought out the leg remains of his friend that had been gruesomely ripped apart during the Sarlacc's first encounter. The only thing that remained was the bone and Rendal kept it with him until Hamilcar returned, three weeks late.

Lightsaber: After Hamilcar returned to pick up Rendal and did he found Rendal to have a strong attachment to two things, the orange Dragite crystal and a bone, a femur particularly. Hamilcar heard the story from Rendal, minus the massive amount of Dark Side that almost was embraced, and accepted this as a completion of the trial and so Hamilcar took his Padawan Rendal to The Forge on Tython. Rendal insisted the bone be part of the ceremony and Hamilcar accepted this, stating that the trials of a Padawan should play as large of a role as possible in the ceremony of creating a lightsaber. So in an ancient tradition, slightly modified, Rendal placed his Dragite Crystal into the base of the bone, now hollowed out completely. The rest of the saber was constructed in basic form though before it was combat ready it had to be reinforced and technically altered to provide combat efficiency however this was done timely and before Rendal became a knight.

Knighthood to Now: Rendal was soon taken and announced to the council as having completed his trials as a Padawan under the guidance of Jedi Master Hamilcar Lect. At a fairly young age but not so young to be unheard of, Rendal Arstor was knighted by the Jedi Order. Swearing to uphold the peace of the Galaxy and to preserve the Jedi Order. Swearing to forever uphold the Jedi Code and to be a faithful Jedi Rendal became a true Jedi.

In the following years Rendal has not encountered a Hutt or a Sarlacc by way of him avoiding the circumstances that would put him in contact with either. Most of his time has been spent in study of the Light Side, learning history and becoming more in tune with the modern world. Rendal has visited many planets and operates mostly as an agent of the order. A diplomatic envoy and a scholar of the order with a primary focus on peacetime activities...though Rendal kept his lightsaber and combat skills sharp all the while through daily training and sparring when able with the other Jedi and friends of his.

Not sure about the Wookiee part of the bio, but nonetheless everything else seems to be in order.

Before I approve this app, surely Rendal has more skills than merely combat? Considering his Consular-like focus, he should have those aspects at least, like is he good at cooking? Piloting? Reading? Any other languages? Etc. etc.

Just pointers.

Fortunately or unfortunately the aversion to technology has limited Rendal's choice of skills to be practiced in. Aside from Jedi abilities he is mentioned to be skilled in diplomacy but otherwise lacking talents.

Gauging his history, he should at least have wilderness survival skills, knowledge of flora and fauna, and should know how to make his own food and to differentiate from poisonous substances no? Skills do not have to only do with modern conveniences, given your Luddite tendencies.

No color on that cloak. Could probably use shoes and such, unless he doesn't wear shoes. More detail on clothes, in general, would be nice.

Seems like he hates Tatooine in general.

Sensing force sensitivity in the young Nish known as Rendal, Hamilcar took him back to be trained as a Jedi. After this was approved Hamilcar took the young trainee to be trained.
So he has no desire to go home? Just...hang out with a stranger with a laser sword all day? And if he could be classified as a man by the slavers, isn't he kind of old for the Jedi training at this point?

He's going to turn sides.

I've made a few edits but there are a few points I'd like to address in response form if you wouldn't mind.  First the clothing/armor has been edited to accommodate coloration and more specifics. The skills had been edited before that quote was taken in accordance with Hamilcar's post however with the addition of nature based skills he is still one who has little skills by choice. Note that he wasn't sold as a man but rather sold as a 'youth', of age enough to be taken with some value but not a 'man' by any means, though he may have been a few years older than the average youngling when finally rescued, it fits with Hamilcar's unorthodox way of Jedi'ing. He doesn't desire to go home after being abducted as a slave for a long period of time as he had a desire to learn what exactly he was without on Nishr and Hamilcar was the only way for that to happen also via honor not to return after being captured (These bits are added now I was just giving cover to explain the change). Finally, it's not definite that he is going to turn sides but the possibility is there.

In other words, fixed.
